TOM FEDDO

Tom Feddo is a prominent leader in U.S. national security, cross-border investment, and international trade. With a distinguished professional career, he is known for his strategic thinking, creative problem solving, and expertise in national security regulatory risk and compliance. 

Tom’s singular role as the first-ever Assistant Secretary for Investment Security at the U.S. Department of the Treasury highlights his significant contributions to U.S. national security. He led the historic expansion from 2018-21 of the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States’ (CFIUS) and oversaw the review of more than 500 cross-border business transactions, effectively preventing compromises to critical U.S. technology and infrastructure while keeping markets free and open. 

Previously, he led the Office of Enforcement at Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), overseeing the U.S. government’s enforcement of its far-reaching economic sanctions programs.  

Currently, Tom is the Founder and Managing Member of The Rubicon Advisors, LLC in Alexandria, VA, providing strategic advisory services on geopolitical risk and national security regulations to multinational corporations, investment funds, financial institutions, and law firms. 

He also holds Senior Advisor roles at Patomak Global Partners and Capstone LLC, offering insights and advice on risk management challenges and complex strategic and regulatory challenges to institutional investors and multinationals. He also serves on the ForgePoint Capital Cybersecurity Advisory Council, a cybersecurity venture capital firm.

Tom’s career includes serving as a Partner at Alston & Bird, LLP, an Am Law 50 firm, providing legal advice on economic sanctions, international trade, and other national security matters. He has also held positions at the U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Energy and Commerce, the Office of the General Counsel of the Navy, and as a Navy nuclear submarine officer.

Feddo holds a Juris Doctor degree from The George Washington University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the U.S. Naval Academy. He is a permanent member of the Council on Foreign Relations, and a Fellow at the National Security Institute at George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School.

Recognized for his exceptional contributions in public service, Feddo has received prestigious awards such as the Treasury Department’s Alexander Hamilton Award and the Meritorious Service Award. He is a licensed attorney in the District of Columbia, California, and Virginia. A prolific author, Feddo contributes as a member of the Editorial Advisory Board for Foreign Investment Watch and has written for The Wall Street JournalThe Washington Examiner,  and The Hill
